The Libby and Robert Alexander Community Sailing Center
The Libby and Robert Alexander Community Sailing Center is NOW OPEN!
Our new state-of-the-art sailing complex is over a half-acre located at 101 N. Roadway St. in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The 4,500 square-foot, two-story building provides a fully ADA-compliant, permanent headquarters with classrooms suited for year-round STEM and maritime career development programs as well as sailing instruction courses. Opened in April 2025, the Alexander Community Sailing Center includes classrooms, technology, a boat workshop, storage, and offices that replace the temporary office space that we have used since 2021. This multi-purpose facility will better enable us to expand our capacity to accommodate the high demand for our programs.
Located in West End on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain, we have a floating dock and hoist to launch and retrieve boats. We also have eight boat slips where our keelboat fleet remains docked. All the finger piers are wheelchair accessible and have transfer equipment for those in need of assistance.
The new building was made possible thanks to the continued, generous support of Libby and Robert Alexander, who provided vital funding for the new headquarters as well as helped launch the sailing center, which is named in their honor. Additional generous support came from Gulf Coast Bank & Trust, Boysie Bollinger Fund, Oscar J. Tolmas Charitable Trust, Ella West Freeman Foundation, and others.
