The Libby and Robert Alexander Community Sailing Center

Community Sailing New Orleans is already breaking down barriers and redefining access to Lake Pontchartrain with a focus on inclusiveness that has never existed in this region.

But what if New Orleans could be home to a true world-class, state-of-the-art Community Sailing Center serving youth and adults, with expanded shoreside and on-the-water classes, year-round STEM and environmental programming, and community events? The plans and staff are in place, but we must first overcome our biggest barrier to growth: the lack of a permanent headquarters building.

Currently, our staff and volunteers work out of temporary, outdoor structures and under covered awnings, spaces that lack the needed classrooms, offices, and storage to fully support the sailing center’s growing enrollment. Educational space is severely restricted, limiting classes and student capacity. Without larger classrooms, workspaces, and offices, our ability to serve the broader community is stifled. A new headquarters building is needed so that no one is left behind.

To address this challenge, Community Sailing New Orleans is launching a $4.5 million capital campaign for construction of a permanent home, critical to sustaining the relevance and rapid expansion of our groundbreaking programs.

The foundation has been laid and now is the time for us to build upon it. This new permanent structure will be a community resource in the truest sense of the term: a place where everyone can grow, learn, and enjoy the rich natural environment of one of our region’s greatest natural resources, Lake Pontchartrain.
