CSNOI  is a Louisiana not for profit corporation that has been granted 501(c)(3) status by the IRS.  Working with other programs around the country, the requirements, capabilities and finances of this community based enterprise in New Orleans have been developed. 

Architects, on a pro bono basis, have prepared plans for the facility and building.  On January 14, 2013 the manager of the City's marina at West End (the New Orleans Municipal Yacht Harbor Management Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the City of New Orleans) approved a lease of the ground and waterbottoms required by the Community Sailing Center in the southeast corner of Municipal Yacht Harbor.  That lease must be approved by the City Council and the Mayor before it becomes effective. 

It is anticipated that those steps can be completed in the next several months, allowing CSNOI to begin the critical fundraising task in earnest.  It will take some time to raise the money, have formal design documents prepared, contract for construction/equipment purchases and for construction., But, the project continues to move forward – the approval of the lease by MYHMC marked an important milestone.
